How are you Reader, Really... Iād love to know. Me? Iām in a season of unexpected active rest. Iāve been reading a lot of novels, pottering around the garden and making friends with the Robin. And feeling a little frustrated. What is stinging a little is the thing that hasnāt worked out so well. Two things that consume a lot of my time ā the podcast, and social mediaā are not paying back the effort I am putting in. Whilst I donāt need fame and fortune, I realise I want something for the energy I put out there. As a startup founder client shared with me in a tough funding round, āI donāt need more kudos for my great business. I need financial validationā. My creative baby, the podcast, Unsaid at Work has 80 episodes in the bag. But downloads are now a third of when we kicked off 18 months ago, and heading downwards. Even though the podcast is in the top 5% of global podcasts, somewhere, Iām not hitting the mark of what folk want to listen to. Iāve played by the rules on social media (Linkedin & Instagram) for over two years with nothing to show for it. Just me ā shouting into the noisy abyss that is social media. (All my work continues to come through referrals and repeat clients). Thatās hard for me to share with you Reader, because I donāt like to not be ātop of the classā. Iāve always signed up to the idea that hard work always pays off. Iāve worked hard, and it hasnāt paid off. Iāve made a few decisions: š” Itās a wrap on the podcast Unsaid at Work. I might come back to it. I might not. š” Iām stopping any proactive social media. I might post when I get excited to post something. But Iām no longer posting 5x a week (as all the experts tell you is absolutely necessary). Instead, Iāll be working 3-day weeks over summer, and resting in between trusting energy and inspiration will find me in the downtime. Hard work doesnāt always pay off and it doesnāt mean itās about you. It could be context, timing, or maybe the world isnāt ready for you. If you need any extra encouragement this week, hit reply to get a dose from me. Iām here for you. Catherine |
I'm an executive coach, podcaster, DJ. I'm the wing woman for lonely leaders wanting to unleash their leadership potentialš„ (and their teams). Weekly leadership tips, funny stories, and snippets from the Unsaid @ Work podcast.
Keeping it short today Reader, I want to help you elevate your leadership skills and team dynamics through executive coaching. And any leader who truly cares about their team knows itās better to understand what they need than to guess at what they might want. So this is me asking. In a one-question-only survey. It should take you less than a minute to fill out. Thanks Reader. You make coaching a lot more fun. Catherine P.S. One minute to tell me about your leadership challenges.
Hey Reader, One of the common complaints I hear about bosses is their lack of availability. So my tip for you this weekā¦. Donāt cancel your 1:1 meetings with your team. YOU hold the power in your role as boss (even if you donāt feel it!) If you ask your team member if itās okay to reschedule a 1:1, they will likely say yes because they donāt think they have a choice. I know you feel under pressure a lot of the time, but the 1:1ās are not the place to find space. If youāre a coachey-leader,...
Hi Reader, Iām packing my bags for 2 weeks in Denmark. Perhaps you are packing bags too, or rumbling with the kids already on school holidays. So Iām going to keep it short ā and dropping in a leadership tip this week. Block out 30 minutes for reflection at the end of each day. A grumpy looking CSM taking reflection seriously! If like me, you spend a day in meetings and a whirlwind of decision making, you need time to digest the day. Reflection time is that integration of the dayās events,...
